Description:Gas chromatography is the most important technique in the analysis of organic chemicals present in the air of workplaces. Samples of air, whole or concentrated on collection media, are analyzed in the laboratory for comparison with occupational exposure limit values. Portable gas chromatographic instruments can also be used to provide immediate readings in the field for more rapid response. Gas chromatography is also used in the analysis of personal biological samples to evaluate occupational exposures to organic chemicals. [Description provided by NIOSH]
