Description:The four components of population change are births, deaths, immigration, and emigration. The difference between births and deaths is called natural increase if the result is positive and natural decrease if the result is negative. The difference between immigration and emigration is called net migration.
In this Note the terms immigration and emigration are reserved for movements across international boundaries. Movements within this country are called immigration and outmigration. These terms are defined later in this Note.
