Description:Single blood pressure measurements were obtained among a national probability sample of persons representative of the U.S. civilian non-institutionalized population 6-74 years of age in the Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (HANES) from April 1971 through June 1974.
This first Health and Nutrition Examination Survey program, in which these data were obtained, was designed to measure the nutritional status of the U.S. population as well as certain pects of the general health status and medical care needs of the U.S. population. This is the fourth of the Health Examination Survey programs that obtain information on the prevalence of medically defined illness, on unrecognized or undiagnosed conditions, and on a variety of physical, physiological, and psychological measures within the population through direct examinations, tests, and measurements, as described in previous publications.
