  For the 2nd quarter of 1972, 3,514 shigella isolations from humans were reported. This represents an increase of 716 (25.67.) over the 2,798 isolations reported for the preceding quarter, and an increase of 277 (8.6%) over the 3,237 isolations reported for the same quarter 1 year earlier (Table I).
