Description:United States Public Health Service was inaugurated officially on July 1, 1946, for the field investigation and control of communicable diseases. The Center, located in Atlanta, Ga . , will continue certain training and investigation functions of the Office of Malaria Control in War Areas, which it replaces, and in addition will deal with a special phase of communicable disease prevention not now provided as federal services.
