Although heart disease and stroke death rates are leveling off after 40 years of steady decline in the United States, cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains the nationās leading cause of death for men and women of all races and ethnicities. It is the greatest contributor to racial disparities in life expectancy and in some populations, CVD is increasing.
