Description:More than thirty years ago, CDC reported the first known case of what is now called AIDS in its Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.
Since then, CDC has been at the forefront of the fight against HIV in the United States and around the world – expanding its efforts in parallel with the epidemic. As a key implementer of the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), CDC plays a unique role – bringing a combination of scientific and technical expertise and on-the-ground experience to bear in the fight against HIV. Today, CDC continues to lead the way in HIV prevention and treatment at home and abroad, using innovation and data-driven approaches to help accelerate progress towards epidemic control and, ultimately, save lives.
