  An attempt was made to explore questions concerned with the teaching of environmental and occupational diseases as part of a medical school curriculum. Specifically, the conference was intended to offer pathology educators with source material and new approaches to achieve the goal of incorporating this training into their teaching. Specific topics addressed in these papers included the role of the academic pathologist in environmental and occupational health education, air pollution in the developed world, occupational hypersensitivity pulmonary disease, teaching environmental pathology in the medical curriculum, central nervous system diseases related to metal neurotoxicity, developmental and cognitive correlates of childhood lead (7439921) exposure, health effects of low dose ionizing radiation, environmental and occupational skin disease, human health effects of agrichemical use, drug and chemical induced hypersensitivity disorders, environmental ecology, risk assessment in pathology education, and legal aspects of occupational and environmental disease.
