Description:Three animal models for obstructive lung disease are presented, based on the cynomolgus monkey, guinea pig, and rat, with the rationale of the tests selected. Details are given of animal preparation, pulmonary function testing apparatus, comparative data of dynamic lung volumes and normal mean values for man and the animal species. The models and test procedures are considered useful in evaluating responses to experimental exposures in several ways, including monitoring recovery or reversibility of toxic responses.
