Description:Factors influencing the increase in per cent nitrogen of expired volumes are studied for tracings taken in the nitrogen single breath test from miners with varied levels of pulmonary disability. The factors include a difference in inspired oxygen volume, as related to maximal end-expiratory position or resting end-expiratory position inhalation, and ventilatory conditions; expiratory flow rate; and expiratory flow pattern.
