Description:Fritted bubbler sampling for formaldehyde emissions in eight permanent-press cutting and finishing plants showed exposures considerably below the current threshold limit values. The estimated incidence of respiratory disease (based on plant records and interviews) was found to be especially high. Since ventilation was adequate with regard to currently recommended standards, the results suggest that the present ceiling threshold value for formaldehyde is no longer appropriate.
