Description:A health hazard evaluation determination performed at the Unitog Company (SIC-2311) in Warrensburg, Missouri, a facility used to produce business clothing of the permanent press type, revealed that employees in the pressing department are not exposed to toxic concentrations of aldehydes, toluene (108883), methyl-ethyl-ketone (78933) and phenol (108952) in the workroom air. It was also determined that the same employees are exposed to particulate lint fibers which irritate their eyes, nose and throat. The employees handle uncured fabrics which contain quantities of latent formaldehyde in excess of 1,000 ppm by weight, thus increasing the risk of contact dermatitis. [Description provided by NIOSH]
