Description:A list of NIOSH certified equipment for control and evaluation of occupational hazards is presented. With the authorization of the Federal Mine Safety and Health Act of 1977 and the OSHA Act of 1970, NIOSH provides a testing, approval, and certification program assuring commercial availability of safe personal protective devices and reliable industrial hazard measuring instruments. Under the program, NIOSH publishes certification requirements, tests, and certifies products meeting the requirements, publishes lists of certified products, monitors manufacturers' quality assurance programs, monitors quality of products from the open market, and performs research on development of new test methods and requirements for product improvement. Products certified under this program as of February 17, 1983 are listed. Information necessary to select appropriate equipment is presented for coal mine dust personal sampler units, gas detector tube units, respiratory protective devices, and sound level meter sets. Test procedures required for certification of the listed products are outlined. Names and addresses of manufacturers and distributors are also given. View the current Certified Equipment List.
