Description:Research needs on respirator usage which could benefit the user population are discussed. The need for research relating to practical aspects of respirator use, such as matching wearer respiratory impairment to respiratory protective equipment resistance and behavior patterns associated with respiratory use, is described. Research needs in the areas of improved test protocols and development of field testing units are identified. Several areas of respirator design which require further research, including improvement of respirator materials and components, saturation indicators, and valves, are identified.
