  Test results using the NIOSH analytical method S344 for 2,4-toluene- diisocyanate (584849) are reported. The method involves collection of samples in a midget impinger containing N-4-nitrobenzyl-N-n- propyl amine (Nitro reagent) in toluene, removal of toluene by evaporation, mixing of the residue with methylene-chloride (75092), and analysis by liquid chromatography with an ultraviolet detector. Chromatographic operating conditions are provided. Results from synthesis and elution tests are discussed. The method was unsatisfactory due to oxidation of the Nitro reagent after sample collection, deterioration of the chromatographic column caused by excess Nitro reagent, and unsuitability of toluene as the collection medium.
