Description:In a four-year National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health-sponsored research program, this team aimed to address the ergonomic needs of all occupational stakeholders working in medical/surgical patient rooms. This research process included focus groups and interviews with stakeholder groups, full-scale mock-up room design sessions, full-scale room layout review sessions with patients and visitors, and full-scale room layout review sessions with occupational stakeholders to identify potential conflicts that need to be considered in the design process. This presentation will focus on the principles and recommendations that should be considered by those engaged in the design of new or remodeled healthcare facilities. [Description provided by NIOSH]
