Description:This report, which was prepared on the fiftieth anniversary of the beginning of the Division of Occupational Health, included five documents which represented plans, directions and suggestions for action for the Division in the future. The first document was a report of the subcommittee on occupational health which discussed the strengths of the current program in occupational health; the objectives, goals, and plans of action for the future; university research and its role in the ongoing program; administrative organization and the operation of the occupational health program within the Environmental Health Center. The second report discussed occupational health in the public health service and predicted an increased demand for health protection in the work place and a keener realization by industry that expanded research and more widespread application of occupational health principles will produce both tangible and intangible dividends. The third report provided a look ahead at the next 50 years in occupation health. Report number four looks at the complementary approach to worker health between occupational and environmental health in light of the changing face in industry, acknowledging specifically the role of coal dust in chest diseases, the hazards of industrial chemicals, and the effects of noise exposure in the workplace. The last report reviewed the current strengths, difficulties, and opportunities to be found in the field of occupational health. [Description provided by NIOSH]
