  This does not purport to be a comprehensive treatise on the practice of the broad field of ergonomics. The discipline draws on so many aspects of the biological, behavioral, medical, and technological sciences that a complete coverage of the field within the confines of a chapter would have been impossible. Instead, the subject matter presented relates to the aspects of ergonomics pertinent to the biomechanics of work situations, very often requiring immediate decisions in the field. The analysis of problems created by the general industrial environment - including those stemming from noise, light, climate, and fatigue - has been omitted.
