Description:Silicosis and coal worker's pneumoconiosis are occupational lung diseases caused by inhalation of mineral dusts. Despite similar radiographic appearances, these diseases are very different from the standpoints of pathology, clinical presentation, and natural history. Even though both diseases are preventable, they continue to exist. It is therefore, critical that respiratory physicians continue to be familiar with these diseases and have a high index of suspicion for their presence in appropriate clinical settings.
