Description:Neurotoxicology is the study of actions of agents that cause adverse effects on the nervous system and behavior of humans and animals, includes adverse effects traceable to changes in stucture or fuction of the nervous system, special sense organs and neuroendocrine system, and recognizes the importance of conjoint study of mechanisms and effects or neurotoxins in humans and animals, experimental or otherwise. Because of the chemical complexity, delicate internal balance and enormous biological responsibility of the nervous system, chemicals with potentially neurotoxic properties are legion. Neurotoxicity is, perhaps, one of the most common types of toxic response recognized in man. [Description provided by NIOSH]
