Description:Isometric strength tests were used in worker screening tests to better match individual strength to job strength requirements. Twenty jobs in a tire and rubber facility were evaluated to identify critical strength demanding tasks. New applicants were given four strength tests designed to simulate these tasks, and successful performance criteria were established. Only about 33 percent of the applicants who passed two additional medical screening tests successfully passed the isometric strength tests. The authors conclude that isometric strength screening tests can be used to reduce the potential for occupational injuries and should be considered for implementation in industries involving strenuous work.
