Description:Neurotoxic effects of triphenyl phosphate (115866) were studied in cats. Cats were given 0.4, 0.7, or 1.0 grams per kilogram of the chemical subcutaneously. The cats were sacrificed and samples of brain stem and spinal cord were taken. Those given the lower dosage did not become ataxic. The higher doses caused prostration some time after dosing, but histological examination did not reveal any evidence of axon degeneration, or demyelination in the spinal cord. The authors conclude that there was no evidence that pure triphenyl phosphate causes delayed neurotoxic effects of the type produced by tri-ortho-cresyl phosphate (78308).
