Description:The histamine (51456) content of cotton dust material was analyzed before and after washing processes in an experimental cardroom. Analysis indicated a small decrease in the histamine content of the cotton dust after the washing process. Chemical analysis revealed that histamine release also decreased after the cotton washing treatment, but the effect of the washing treatment was not significant when tested by biological assay. The author notes that the reasons for the discrepancy between the chemical and biological evaluation remain unclear. [Description provided by NIOSH]
