  An overview of comparative medicine is presented primarily as it relates to agriculture. The philosophy of comparative medicine is based on the exposure of both man and animals to multiple environmental factors. Some ways in which comparative research is valuable are given. Comparative studies are used in investigating zoonoses, traumatic injuries and intoxications, and chronic and degenerative diseases. The interdisciplinary approach is emphasized using histoplasmosis and an apparent pesticide intoxication occurrence as examples.
