Description:Experimental evidence is reported concerning the physicochemical and biological factors involved in the potentiation of the irritant property of sulfur-dioxide (7446095) in combination with an aerosol, in the lungs of the guinea pig. Relative humidity is an important variable for those aerosols capable of absorbing water at relative humidities below 95 percent. The results are in agreement with proposed hypotheses for gas-aerosol synergism. [Description provided by NIOSH]
