Description:Worker exposures to pentachlorophenol (87865) (PCP) were determined at B.J. Carney and Company (SIC-2491) in Spokane, Washington on June 26, 1979. Approximately 14 of the employees at this facility were involved in operations that entailed potential PCP exposure. The company had no formal medical or industrial hygiene program. A safety program was in effect. Medical services were provided by local hospitals and workers trained in first aid PCP concentrations were 0.04 milligrams per cubic meter (mg/CuM) using the NIOSH sampling method and less than 0.13 mg/CuM using a silica gel tube. PCP concentrations taken later in the day were 0.10mg/CuM for the NIOSH procedure and 0.13mg/CuM for the silica gel tubes.
