Description:Exposures to perchloroethylene (127184) (PCE) were studied in a dry cleaning facility (SIC-7216) in Mountain View, California. Air samples were collected using battery operated pumps and charcoal tubes. Employee exposure to airborne PCE concentrations in the dry cleaning area ranged from 21 to 30 parts per million. Sampling was incomplete due to a washing unit breakdown. The author concludes that PCE concentrations at this facility are well within the current standards. Since the carcinogenic potential of PCE has not been established, exposure to the compound should be limited as much as possible.
