  At a symposium held October 6-7, 1977 in Cincinnati, Ohio, a panel discussion was held to assess criteria developed for the recirculation of industrial exhaust air. Modeling theory and its application, validation of criteria guidelines with respect to actual installations and monitoring methods and problems were examined. In particular, the relative merits of workplace, area, personal, and duct sampling were discussed. The effect of quality problems on the function or efficiency of a recirculation exhaust system was explored. Maintenance procedures and monitoring of recirculation systems was identified as a potential source of hazard. It was noted that the development of standards by OSHA or NIOSH is not expected to be immediately forthcoming.
