  A critique of recirculation of industrial exhaust air criteria is presented within a framework for judging the impact on worker safety at a symposium held October 6-7, 1977 in Cincinnati, Ohio. The need to improve the safety of recirculation systems is emphasized and some limitations in previously submitted reports and in the present report are pointed out. Among these are additional physical and chemical properties that would be important for design and equipment selection, but are not mentioned in the subject report, such sorbability, electrical or sonic properties, hygroscopicity, agglomerating characteristics, and the potential to poison catalytic converters. An alternative model of an exhaust recirculation system is presented. A question and answer period following the presentation is reported. [Description provided by NIOSH]
