Consultant's view on air recirculation.

  The needs and concerns of industry and consultants on air recirculation are discussed in a paper presented at the Symposium on Recirculation of Industrial Exhaust Air, October 6-7, 1977, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Over the past years the viewpoint of industry has been influenced by state and local government regulations restricting recirculation to nuisance dusts. Industry is currently interested in recirculation from the standpoint of fuel saving and because possible restrictions on fuel use would limit operations and future expansions. Worker contaminant exposures determined by theoretical models will not be satisfactory as determined on the basis of approaching threshold limit values. Industry needs help with applying recirculation methods in specific processes and operations as well as with design factors. For consultants, guidelines are given on use of monitoring devices, economic factors to be considered, and criteria development.
