Description:A chain saw operator group was surveyed at annual intervals over a five year period. The percent prevalence of vibration white finger was reduced from 85 percent to 73 percent in the exposed group following introduction and four years' use of anti-vibration type chain saws. Apparently the use of the antivibration type saw significantly contributed to the reduction in vibration white finger prevalence. A chronological history and background of chain saw use in forestry in the United Kingdom is presented, including the use of standard chain saws and the evolution and final use of the anti vibration chain saw.
