  A walk through survey was made at Ceilcote located in Berea, Ohio for the purpose of becoming familiar with reinforced plastic processes and to ascertain the feasibility of conducting a retrospective cohort mortality study of workers exposed to various resins. Manufacturing operations began at this site in May of 1965. The Corrosion Control Division produced over 100 products, primarily floor toppings and tank lining materials using 75 to 100 different chemical compounds in the manufacturing process. The items, including process piping, tanks, duct work, and fume scrubbers, were fabricated to customer specifications in a hand layup shop using mainly airless chopper guns. Housekeeping was deemed to be inadequate. The workers used a mix of methyl-ethyl- ketone (78933), toluene (108883), and acetone (67641) to cleanse their hands. Thirty five of the 130 production workers were employed in the reinforced fiberglass process. Only 15 had any extensive exposure to styrene (100425). No preemployment or periodic physical examinations were required. The authors recommend that this facility not be included in the styrene exposure study due to the small number of employees exposed to styrene and the lack of good records of past work experiences.
