Description:Respiratory function tests and the incidence of byssinosis among production workers were evaluated in a mattress manufacturing operation, together with associated cotton dust levels. According to vertical elutriator and personal sampling data, dust was present only in the garnetting and shredding departments where the levels exceeded the prevailing standards. Functional tests failed to reveal the presence of byssinosis. Recommendations are made for control measures in the garnett and shredding department.
