Description:The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) collects data to monitor progress toward achieving national goals [1, 2] and the objectives set forth in other federal directives, including the updated strategic plan [3] of the Division of HIV/AIDS Pre- vention (DHAP). This surveillance supplemental report complements the 2018 HIV Surveillance Report (Updated) [4] and presents the results of focused anal- yses of National HIV Surveillance System (NHSS) [5] data to measure progress toward achieving national goals [1]. Data in this report are also used to assess Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) core indicators [6, 7] and to monitor progress toward attainment of HIV-related national objectives in Healthy People 2020 and the Ending the HIV Epi- demic: A Plan for America (EHE) initiative [8, 9]. See Tables 11 and 12 for summaries of indicators for the National HIV/AIDS Strategy 2020 and EHE.
The 2018 report includes data reported to CDC’s NHSS through December 31, 2019. The use of data reported to CDC through December 2019 allows for a 12-month reporting delay and assessment of trends through the most recent diagnosis, death, and prevalence year (2018). Death data for the year 2018 are preliminary.
