The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) released the Toxicological Profile (Update) for Styrene in November 2010.
Since the release of the profile, the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), National Toxicology Program (NTP) listed styrene as “reasonably anticipated to be a human carcinogen” in the Report on Carcinogens , Twelfth Edition, released on June 10, 2011 (http://ntp.niehs.nih.gov/go/roc12). The listing of styrene was based on human cancer studies, laboratory animal studies, and supporting mechanistic data.
ATSDR and the National Center for Environmental Health were included in the NTP deliberations on styrene carcinogenicity and agree with the NTP in its classification of styrene.
