Description:"This report provides information about the National Program for Occupational Safety and Health in Agriculture. The program is dedicated to preventing work related diseases and injuries affecting workers in the agricultural industry, rural or urban. Prevention related activities for the timbering and commercial fish harvesting industries are also included. Information is presented on 25 projects within NIOSH and 42 cooperative agreements between NIOSH and institutions within 25 different states. These initiatives include surveys as well as research, intervention, surveillance and demonstration programs. Diseases and injuries addressed by the program include: occupational lung disease (including pneumonitis, asthma, chronic bronchitis, organic dust toxic syndrome, and mucous membrane irritation), musculoskeletal injuries (including carpal tunnel syndrome, tenosynovitis, epicondylitis, peritendinitis, and tendinitis, milkers' knee, and tractor drivers' syndrome), various aspects of cancer prevention, serious occupational traumatic injuries (including machine related fatalities, electrocutions, suffocation, suicides, amputations, and eye injuries), cardiovascular disease (including heat stroke), neurologic disorders (including dementia and neurologic dysfunction), reproductive disorders (including miscarriage and infertility), noise induced hearing loss, dermatological conditions (including burns and lacerations), psychological disorders (including dementia, depression, stress and suicide), and infectious diseases (such as zoonoses, tuberculosis, and rabies)." - NIOSHTIC-2
