Description:The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has developed an assortment of disaster preparedness and recovery tools for public health professionals to use in addressing public health needs before, during, and following a disaster. In this newsletter, we aim to: • define and categorize disasters; • define disaster epidemiology and introduce the Disaster Epidemiology Response Team (DERT); • provide examples of previous DERT disaster responses; • provide CDC tools for disaster response and response preparedness; • describe PCCs roles and capabilities in disaster response; • provide disaster response and preparedness tools; and, • highlight suggestions in the literature on PCCs preparation and utilization in disaster responses.
