Description:In 1963 che National Natality Survey started collecting data from a sample of all live births registered in the United States. From the certificates which are microfilmed and sent to the National Center for HeaIth Statistics, a sample is selected in such a manner that every State and independent birth-registration area is represented, every birth in the United States has an equal chance of being included, and national estimates can be presented for certain demographic, geographic, and personal characteristics of the mothers.
