Description:"This report was intended to serve as a guide for state health departments in the area of occupational mortality surveillance. Guidelines were provided concerning data collection, data processing, analyses and followup. Methods for improving data quality were suggested, coding procedures were explained, and a comparison was made of various statistical methods. A lengthy reference list was included along with a list of persons to contact at NIOSH and in the state health departments for further information and assistance. In the sections concerning methods for screening the data, the report discussed the study population, disease and exposure categories, adjustment factors, estimates of risk (standard mortality ratio, proportionate mortality ratio, and the standardized mortality odds ratio), statistical inference and interpretation of the results. For followup studies, the report reviewed validation procedures, proportionate mortality ratio analyses, case/control studies and geographic or trend analyses." - NIOSHTIC-2
