For the period January-June 1973, 6,581 shigella isolations from humans were reported. This represents a decrease of 905 (12.1%) from the 7,486 isolations reported for the preceding 6 months and an increase of 269 (4.3%) over the 6,312 isolations reported for the corresponding months of K972 (Tables I-A - I-B, pp 13-16).
