In 1974, 23,838 isolations of salmonella were reported to CDC, a decrease of 2,855 cases (10.7%) from the previous year. As in 1973, Salmonella typhlmurium (including S. typhimurium var. Copenhagen) , S. newport, and S. enteritidls were the first, second, and third most commonly isolated serotypes, respectively.
