Description:Each year, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) publishes a State Health Profile for each state and the District of Columbia. This publication series uses selected “health status indicators” to describe the health status of the United States on a state-by-state basis. This information is presented through user-friendly graphics and narrative interpretation. The series also highlights selected demographic information, prevention and control efforts aimed at specific health conditions, and CDC funding for and partnership agreements with all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
Data presented in this publication are based on a list of 18 health status indicators established by a national committee.* These health status indicators are intended to ensure data comparability across the states and to help communities assess their general health status.
