Summarized is information received from State and local health departments, and other pertinent sources. Although much of the information is preliminary, it is presented for the use of those with responsibility for disease control activities. Anyone desiring to quote this report should contact the original investigator for confirmation and interpretation.
Rubella became a nationally notifiable disease on January 1, 1966, and during 1966 there were 45,895 cases reported. A seasonal peak of 7,708 cases was noted during the 4-week period ending May 21, 1966, in contrast to a low figure of 816 cases reported during the 4 weeks ending September 10, 1966. Comparison of regional case rates shows that the Mountain States exceeded other Regions of the United States during the past year.
