Description:Toxoplasmosis (Tox-o-plaz-mo-sis) is an infection caused by the parasite Toxoplasma gondii. More than 60 million people in the United States probably carry the Toxoplasma parasite, but very few have symptoms because the immune system usually keeps the parasite from causing illness. However, expectant mothers should be cautious because an infection can cause problems in pregnancy.
This brochure was developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and in collaboration with the Minnesota Department of Health.
