Description:Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) is a specific group of diseases or conditions which are indicative of severe immunosuppression related to infection with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Contents of this report: Notice to readers; AIDS cases and annual rates per 100,000 population, by state; AIDS cases and annual rates per 100,000 population, by metropolitan area with 500,000 or more population; AIDS cases by age group, exposure category, and sex; Male adult/adolescent AIDS cases by exposure category and race/ethnicity; Female adult/adolescent AIDS cases by exposure category and race/ethnicity; Pediatric AIDS cases by exposure category and race/ethnicity; AIDS cases in adolescents and adults under age 25, by sex and exposure category; AIDS cases by sex, age at diagnosis, and race/ethnicity; AIDS cases, case-fatality rates, and deaths, by half-year and age group; AIDS cases by year of diagnosis and definition category; Health-care workers with documented and possible occupationally acquired AIDS/HIV infection, by occupation; Adult/adolescent AIDS cases by single and multiple exposure categories; Male adult/adolescent AIDS annual rates per 100,000 population; Female adult/adolescent AIDS annual rates per 100,000 population; Male adult/adolescent AIDS cases; Female adult/adolescent AIDS cases; Pediatric AIDS cases; Results of investigations of AIDS cases with undetermined risk; and, Technical notes.
Notice to readers: Table 2 of this quarter’s Report uses revised Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) definitions issued by the Office of Management and Budget in June 1993. These latest MSA definitions retain most of the revisions issued in December 1992. However, the New York City MSA is returned to its pre-December 1992 definition, and the six MSAs in New Jersey which were included as part of the New York City MSA are again defined as separate MSAs. See technical notes for additional information.
