"From March 1970 through July 1971, influenza activity in the United States decreased markedly from the epidemic levels that were present the previous 3 years. However, widespread outbreaks of influenza occurred in a number of states. In a majority of these outbreaks, virus similar to influenza B/Mass/66 was demonstrated to be the responsible agent. Influenza B was also prevalent in Western Europe, while influenza A was more frequently seen in the Southern Hemisphere." - p. [1]
