Description:The Construction Chart Book, now in its 7th edition, has been providing people across the industry with accurate and timely construction statistics since 1997. To meet changing needs and practices, the Chart Book has evolved, adding data sources and introducing formats to make it an even more valuable resource. Presented in 54 chapters and offering more than 200 charts and tables, the new edition consists of five sections. The Industry, Business, and Owner chapters present trends on construction establishments, construction spending, and business owners. The Employment, Income, and Benefit chapters examine data on groups such as aging, Hispanic, and women workers, as well as information on retirement plans and health insurance coverage. Safety and health issues are covered in the remaining three sections. The Injuries, Illnesses, and Other Health Topics chapters include detailed information on fatal, nonfatal, and severe injuries, as well as leading causes of death and health risk factors. Hazards and Exposure chapters highlight data about construction sites, such as hazardous environments, lead, and nanomaterials. The OSHA Enforcement chapters cover trends of OSHA inspections and citations in the construction industry, including common exposures. While the 7th edition covers topics similar to previous ones, it adds interactive dashboards that update dynamic key findings and charts through user-selected filters. These interactive pages, corresponding to the traditional chapters and available at cpwr.com/chartbook, not only enable users to meet their specific interests; they also allow data to be updated more regularly. We recommend the interactive pages be reviewed alongside the PDF, as the online pages have more detailed information than could be provided in the short, easy-to-read chapters the Chart Book is known for. The Chart Book continues to use a variety of sources, many from Federal agencies such as the U.S. Census Bureau, U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, and National Center for Health Statistics. For the first time it draws on mortality data from the National Center for Health Statistics National Vital Statistics System, which added industry and occupation data starting with 2020. To support additional learning, related CPWR resources are listed at the end of chapters. Each chapter also includes relevant information about each data source, such as if it has any major limitations. CPWR's Data Center does all calculations, and numbers presented may not be directly comparable to other publications due to different definitions.
