Description:NASD is a collection of information about health, safety and injury prevention in agriculture. NASD consists of full-text publications, video abstracts, bibliographic abstracts, public service announcement scripts, standards, slide shows and posters contributed by safety professionals from 25 states, 4 federal agencies and 5 national organizations. Its purpose is to provide a central source of national safety and health information to agricultural safety specialists and others concerned with the safety and health of agricultural workers. Although agricultural workers make up only 2.7 percent of the total U.S. labor force, they suffer 12.9 percent of workplace injuries resulting in death. NASD was created to help reduce accidents and fatalities, as well as the incidence of occupational illness, by increasing the availability of vital information about agricultural health and safety regulations and practices nationwide. The NASD puts all this information in a highly compact, accessible, and regularly updated form. Information in the NASD covers topics such as chemical/pesticide safety, personal protective equipment, animal handling, electrical safety, fire safety, sanitation, and others. Also included are a Safety Resource Directory, federal safety standards, safety training modules, and much more. [Description provided by NIOSH]
