Description:Highlights are presented of a workshop on the epidemiology of respiratory diseases which included discussion of problems associated with the use of standardized procedures in chest radiography. There was a consensus that the chest X-ray was useful in epidemiologic diseases or specific pulmonary diseases other than the obstructive diseases. Workshop sessions were addressed to the following topics: problems in the use of the International Labor Organization U/C classification of radiography of respiratory diseases, with emphasis on pneumoconiosis; correlation of radiographic indices with lung function and pathology; use of radiography in disease associated with exposure to occupational dusts, especially asbestos (1332214) dust, coal dust, silica (7631869) dust and organic dusts, and in community studies; and technical and methodologic considerations.
