Description:This report describes the results of two related studies to evaluate NIOSH's generation chamber constructed by Assay Technology. The objective of the first study was to evaluate the generation chamber developed by NIOSH to expose diffusive samplers to various vapors at set environmental conditions, such as temperature, humidity, and atmospheric pressure. This evaluation was necessary for the second phase of the work, which was a pilot study to evaluate diffusive samplers. Diffusive samplers from three manufacturers (3M, SKC, and Assay Technology) were tested in the experimental matrix specified in "Standard Practice for Evaluating the Performance of Diffusive Samplers," ASTM D 6246-98. Anasorb CSC charcoal sorbent tubes were included in the tests as a reference collection medium and to verify vapor concentrations in the generation chamber. In addition, SRI was to determine if it would be advantageous to use this NIOSH chamber to generate diffusive samplers for the American Industrial Hygiene Association Proficiency (AIHA) Proficiency Analytical Testing (PAT) Program.
